2022 PGA Championship Winner Justin Thomas funds an entire year of weekend meals for an elementary school in his hometown

PGA TOUR golfer Justin Thomas and his organization, the Justin Thomas Foundation, have recently donated funds to feed an entire school through Blessings in a Backpack — a national nonprofit that feeds food-insecure kids on the weekends. On behalf of the Justin Thomas Foundation, more than 500 students at Camp Taylor Elementary in Thomas’ hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, will receive weekend meals for the 2022–2023 school year.

“As a professional athlete, I know the importance of eating healthy to achieve my goals and focus on the course that lies ahead,” said Thomas. “That’s why I’m excited to announce that the Justin Thomas Foundation is partnering with Blessings in a Backpack this school year to feed every student at Camp Taylor Elementary on the weekends. Because when kids have enough food to eat, they do better in school. I’m happy to be able to support the kids in my hometown of Louisville, which holds a very special place in my heart.”

In 2019, Thomas launched his foundation to support military families, junior golf, and children in need. As a Louisville native, Thomas has seen first-hand the need for programs like Blessings in a Backpack in his hometown.

“With the rising cost of food, parents are having to choose between buying meals or paying rent,” said Tiffany Bolling, family resource administrator at Camp Taylor Elementary. “I had kids coming to me crying because they were hungry on the weekends. We needed additional nutritional support for them. I reached out to Blessings in a Backpack, and they called on the Justin Thomas Foundation, and he donated funding to feed all the kids in need at Camp Taylor. We are truly blessed and very grateful for Justin Thomas and Blessings in a Backpack.”

Blessings in a Backpack is a national nonprofit headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, that has programs in 44 states and Washington, D.C. Majority of the students within the Blessings in a Backpack program rely on free-and-reduced lunches during the school week but often are left without food for the weekend. The organization ensures food-insecure children in schools across the nation receive the nutrition they need on the weekends by providing food every Friday for these students.

“This generous funding from Justin Thomas and his foundation exemplifies his leadership on and off the course,” said Beth Bush, director, athletic and strategic partnerships of Blessings in a Backpack. “As an organization founded in Louisville, it means everything to be supported by a hometown hero and PGA TOUR champion. We look forward to seeing the excitement and gratitude from the Camp Taylor Elementary students when they receive their Blessings bags each Friday.”

At just 29 years old, Thomas has won the PGA Championship in 2022 and 2017 and was ranked PGA TOUR World #1. To learn more about the Justin Thomas Foundation, visit justinthomasgolf.com.
