Can you believe it’s been four years (yep, you heard that right!) since the epic showdown between the Bills and the Ravens kicked off an incredible wave of generosity from our beloved Bills Mafia? It feels like just yesterday we were rallying together in honor of Ravens QB Lamar Jackson after he left the field with a concussion during that unforgettable 2021 AFC Playoff game.

It all started when two passionate Bills fans, William Burke and Dan Konopski, independently took to social media to spread the word: let’s donate $8 in homage to Jackson’s jersey number to Blessings in a Backpack. “Watching him go down in a scary way, I paused and reflected,” Dan recalled. “I said to a friend, ‘We should throw in $20 in Lamar’s honor to keep the good karma going.’”

Little did they know, those heartfelt words would ignite a donation frenzy like no other!

Fast forward to today: thanks to the outpouring of love from over 18,450 football fans, an astonishing $553,000 was raised to help feed kids who might otherwise go hungry. Talk about a touchdown for the community!

Together, we tackled hunger one weekend at a time, making a meaningful impact not only on the lives of children and families but also on our dedicated volunteers and staff—William and Dan even snagged a Musial Award for their efforts on behalf of the Bills Mafia.

But the magic of Bills Mafia doesn’t stop there. Their generosity has truly become legendary, extending far beyond our initial campaign. Whether it’s supporting Blessings in a Backpack, making a difference at Buffalo Children’s Hospital in memory of QB Josh Allen’s grandmother, or even coming together to donate to a local animal shelter in honor of kicker Tyler Bass—Bills Mafia continues to show that it’s never too late to lend a helping hand!

And here’s the icing on the cake—a little bit of déjà vu as the Bills take on the Ravens again this weekend in the divisional playoffs on NFL on CBS!

It’s the first time they’ve clashed in the playoffs since that heartwarming turning point four years ago.

Because of the devoted fans from both teams—and the ripples of goodwill set in motion—we’ve opened new Blessings in a Backpack programs in Western New York and expanded our reach to Baltimore, Louisville, and beyond.
