Louisville senior living facility hosting to-go picnics benefitting Blessings in a Backpack
One of Louisville’s newest senior living facilities is hosting to-go picnics benefitting Blessings in a Backpack.
Everlan of Louisville is calling its to-go picnics “Summer Fest” and they are held every Friday afternoon in July from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The to-go meal includes a burger on a potato bun, slice of watermelon, pasta salad and all of the fixings.
Organizers are asking for a donation of five dollars or non-perishable food items that will benefit Blessings in a Backpack.
“We’ve been coming up with different ways to give back to the community and we thought that would be a great way, plus we have a lot of retired teachers and principals and we thought what a blessing to be able to donate back to something important to them,” general manager, Connie Shacklette said.
The donated items will be packed into backpacks and distributed to Jefferson County Public Schools students.
“On the weekends, when there’s no school cafeteria, that’s kind of where we step in,” said Nikki Grizzle with Blessings in a Backpack. “Last year, when schools were closed, everyone knows how important it was to get those students back in the classroom and fed again.”
Organizers recommend guests park and come inside to get their to-go meal and drop off their donation.
